Broadway creates a predictable problem.
The bars are still going.
You are still going.
Your stomach has filed a formal complaint.
And the restaurant you planned to eat at stopped serving food two hours ago.
The most important thing to understand about late-night food downtown is this:
bar hours and kitchen hours are not the same thing.
A building can remain full of music and alcohol long after its full dinner menu has disappeared.
So if eating late matters, know where you are going before hunger turns a group of otherwise functional adults into a constitutional crisis.
Mel's Drive-In: Best Truly Late Option
Mel's Drive-In on 2nd Avenue North is now one of the most useful late-night options downtown because its current published schedule has it operating 24 hours Thursday through Saturday.
That is meaningful.
Not "open kind of late."
Not "the bar is open but the fryer has entered witness protection."
Actually open.
Mel's is a retro diner, so the menu also fits the assignment.
Breakfast.
Burgers.
Fries.
Milkshakes.
Comfort food.
Exactly the kind of food that makes increasingly convincing arguments after midnight.
If I were planning a Friday or Saturday Broadway night and wanted one late-food location in the back of my mind, this is probably the easiest one to remember.
It is on 2nd Avenue, close enough to the Broadway district that you are not launching a separate expedition.
Baam Burger: Best Quick Late Burger
Baam Burger is on 4th Avenue North near the Printer's Alley side of downtown.
Current posted hours have it open late, including until around 3 a.m. on several nights.
This is the opposite of turning late-night food into another elaborate restaurant experience.
Burger.
Fries.
Milkshake.
Eat.
Regain basic emotional stability.
Continue with life.
That is often exactly what people need at 1:30 in the morning.
It is also useful if your night has migrated north toward Printer's Alley rather than staying entirely on Broadway.
Rippy's: Best If You Want to Eat Without Leaving Broadway
Rippy's is at 429 Broadway, directly across from the Bridgestone side of the action.
The useful thing here is that Rippy's currently publishes a specific late-night menu.
On Thursday, that menu currently runs after the full menu ends.
On Friday and Saturday, the late-night menu currently carries food into roughly the midnight-to-1 a.m. window.
That is not 3 a.m.
But it is very useful if you realize around midnight that dinner never happened and you do not want to leave Broadway yet.
The rule remains:
check current kitchen hours if the food is the reason you are choosing the venue.
Menus and schedules change.
JBJ's: Best Central-Broadway Late-Night Menu
JBJ's at 405 Broadway also advertises a dedicated late-night menu.
The venue currently promotes things like New York-style pizza and walking tacos specifically for the late-night crowd.
Again, this is not the same as saying every item on the normal lunch-and-dinner menu remains available until closing.
That distinction is what people miss.
Late-night menus are often intentionally smaller.
They are designed to feed a building full of people efficiently after the normal dinner window.
If you are already in the central Broadway area, that can be more useful than searching for a traditional restaurant at midnight.
The Diner: Best Late Sit-Down Choice
The Diner at 200 3rd Avenue South is the choice I would remember when the group wants to actually sit down and eat rather than inhale a burger while walking.
Its current posted hours run until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The concept is multi-level and has a broad menu rather than operating purely as a late-night takeout counter.
That makes it useful when Broadway has exhausted you enough that the idea of a chair has become luxurious.
This is where late-night food and late-night recovery begin overlapping.
Assembly Food Hall: Best Late-Dinner Buffer
Assembly Food Hall is not my answer for 2 a.m.
It is my answer for preventing the 2 a.m. emergency in the first place.
The hall itself currently stays open later on Friday and Saturday, although individual food vendors set their own hours.
That means Assembly can be a very good late-dinner option while downtown is still transitioning into the deepest part of the night.
If you are at Fifth + Broadway around 9 or 10 p.m. and somebody says:
"We'll eat later."
Consider that a warning.
Eat now.
Future You may be operating with dramatically fewer options.
What About Teddy's?
Teddy's Tavern can be useful for food later in the evening, especially around the Bridgestone side of downtown.
But like many bars, its kitchen schedule matters more than the fact that the building itself remains open.
This is why I would never make a late-night food plan based exclusively on a bar's closing time.
Ask:
When does the kitchen stop serving?
That is the actual question.
What About After a Concert at Bridgestone?
This is one of the easiest ways to create a late-food rush.
Thousands of people exit the arena at the same time.
Many of them are hungry.
Many of them have independently arrived at the revolutionary idea of eating near Broadway.
If food matters after the show, I would already know my first and second options before the final song.
Broadway-area late-night kitchens can get slammed after major events.
You do not need a minute-by-minute itinerary.
You need a backup plan.

What About After 2 A.M.?
Your choices shrink dramatically.
This is where Mel's current 24-hour Thursday-through-Saturday schedule becomes especially useful.
Some fast-food and delivery options may also exist, but availability changes and delivery into the downtown entertainment district can become its own logistical mess.
If you know you are staying out until 2 or 3 a.m., I would eat earlier unless having a very late meal is specifically part of the plan.
Your body is not going to reject food at 10 p.m. because the night has not become sufficiently cinematic yet.
Broadway Bars Can Stay Open Later Than the Kitchens
This deserves repetition.
Some Broadway bars remain active very late.
That does not mean the full food menu follows them all the way to closing.
What Time Do Broadway Nashville Bars Close?
If late-night food matters, verify the kitchen.
Not merely the bar.
Getting Back After Late-Night Food
Once you have eaten, you still have to get wherever you are sleeping.
If you are staying downtown, walking may be easiest depending on your route and comfort level.
Waymo, Uber and Lyft may also be options.
Availability, pricing and pickup conditions vary, especially during major events and peak closing periods.

And if you drove:
Where Do You Park for Broadway Nashville? What I'd Actually Do
My Late-Night Shortlist
For the latest dependable current schedule: Mel's Drive-In
For a quick burger near Printer's Alley: Baam Burger
For staying directly on Broadway: Rippy's or JBJ's, depending on current kitchen hours
For a late sit-down meal: The Diner
For eating before it becomes an emergency: Assembly Food Hall
The Practical Answer
Do not wait until 1:45 a.m. to begin researching restaurants.
Late-night downtown Nashville is full of open bars.
That is not the same thing as being full of open kitchens.
Know one or two options.
Verify current hours.
Eat before everybody becomes irrational.
Then go back to whatever poor decisions Broadway was encouraging before hunger interrupted them.
And if you want to see how crowded downtown looks before heading out:
